Shipping is flat rate, mailed via USPS. The $9 flat rate shipping includes delivery confirmation tracking. For international shipping costs, please contact us for a quote. Shipping times may vary, please allow 10-14 business days for delivery. Once an item is shipped, we are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items. Free Local Pick up option is available in and around the Wilmington, NC area. Please contact us to make pick up arrangements when your order is placed, if applicable.
Because each item is custom made-to-order we do not accept returns or exchanges on any of our items. Measurements are requested for each order and lengths are clearly stated in our sizing chart. Exchanges due to improper fit are not accepted. Please note that tulle color, flowers, ribbon, cape material and all embellishments may vary due to our current on-hand supplies, manufacturer color lot variations and vendor changes. Also note that colors may vary by computer monitor resolution. We can not guarantee that you will receive the exact embellishments that are photographed on the site and in the item listings (this is also what makes each piece unique and custom!). We always do our best to match each tutu, dress, accessory and/or embellishment to complement one another. Although each order is double checked for quality and accuracy, we understand that mistakes happen, if the wrong order is shipped or we have made an error on your order we will happily correct the problem.
If, for some reason, you need to change or cancel your order, you must do so within 48 hours of order placement. After 48 hours we cannot guarantee that the order has not started production. Once production starts, your order can not be canceled or changed and a refund will not be given.
Please allow 3-6 weeks for your order to be completed and shipped. Because each and every item is made to order it takes time for us to cut and assemble each item to your exact measurements and specifications. If you have an order that you would like expedited, please contact us before ordering to make sure that we can accommodate your request.
Lengths and Sizes
We use the 3 traditional ballet lengths for our tutus and 2 lengths for our tutu dresses. Demi – short, to the hip (on average), Grande – medium, to the knee (on average) and Romantic – long, to the floor (on average) for tutus; Grande and Romantic respectively for tutu dresses. Waist and chest sizes are listed (in inches) in our sizing chart to assure proper fit. Please keep in mind that our waist and chest bands stretch up to 6” to allow for growth. The measurements provided in the sizing chart are un-stretched. Please include actual waist/chest measurements in the comments section of your order to ensure proper fit. A printable measuring tape is available for your convenience. If you have any questions or need assistance in choosing a size, please contact us before purchasing. All items are made-to-order and are custom made to your specifications. Because all of our products are custom, no refunds will be given for orders placed. Exchanges are done only if we have made an error.
Special & Custom Requests
Our “Create a Ballerina” line allows you to imagine, design and have us create a custom tutu just for you with a few simple clicks of the mouse. But suppose you just don’t see what you are looking for… Let’s say you need something extraordinary or specific (ie. wedding attire, flower girl dresses, etc…)? Contact us and we’ll turn your dreams into reality! We do it all, from flower girl dresses to entire wedding parties…including wedding dresses! We love making one of a kind, custom creations, and would like to talk to you about your dream tutu or tutu dress!
Custom vs. Copycat
If you happen to see a design somewhere else, can we make it for you? Sure…but where is the fun in that?! We COULD make an exact replica but we would much RATHER make something similar with a few special changes to make it a design all your own. We do not copy designs (we realize that many designs look similar as there are several companies making tutus now-a-days) , but alas…we use our own designs and our own photos too. That’s right; no stolen ideas, no stolen photos…just our photos of our products that we have made. Plain and simple.
All tutus and tutu dresses can be made in 1, 2 & 3 color combinations. If choosing more than one color, please specify if you would like the colors mixed (one of each color knotted together to make one loop – gives a softer look) or blocked (each color gets looped together individually – giving blocks of each chosen color with a more prominent look). Our colors list includes all available colors in premium, shimmer and glitter tulle, as well as some fun custom tulle styles as well. Please note that there is an additional charge of $2 for shimmer tulle and $4 for glitter tulle and $6 for custom tulle per tutu/tutu dress.
We use soft, 100% nylon tulle. No scratchy tulle here! Whether premium or shimmer tulle is used, it is soft and won’t scratch little waists and legs. Our tulle is also lead free! (Scary that we even need to point that out, we know!) Please note, if you choose to have a glitter tulle added to your custom creation it may be a little rougher and the glitter does shed slightly with movement because of the added glue and glitter on the nylon material. This is normal, but please be aware when choosing this option that it will make the tutu/tutu dress slightly more rigid and glitter will shed slightly.
Cleaning and Care
Tutus should be spot cleaned with cold water and hung to dry. Although they are nylon, and nylon is washable, we do not recommend putting your tutu/tutu dress in the washing machine, dryer or dry cleaning them due to possible damage to embellishments, glitter, etc…that may be on your tutu. Most wrinkles will fall out naturally. To quickly release wrinkles, hang in the bathroom during showers and shake out to release any remaining wrinkles. We recommend storing your tutu/tutu dress on a hanger in a safe place to reduce wrinkling. You can comb out the skirts with your fingers and adjust/fluff as needed. To reduce static that occurs from shaking out tutu (or due to uncontrollable spinning!), rub a dryer sheet lightly over the tutu as needed.

Their mission is to support members of our community who are affected by serious illness, by improving the quality of life for them and their families. Kai’s Village helps with meals, household tasks, childcare, and other stresses that families caring for a loved one should not have to worry about. Happy Ballerina is also the proud benefactor of tutus and super hero capes for The Carousel Center, in Wilmington, NC. The Carousel Center is a non profit organization whose mission is to provide a child friendly environment for abused and neglected children and to support child abuse prevention efforts in Southeastern North Carolina. They are committed to assisting victims of child abuse, providing critical care services to children throughout southeastern North Carolina. Happy Ballerina donates tutus and super hero capes for their play therapy department, and are so happy to provide a fun and insightful outlet for the children at the center.
Happy Ballerina is so excited to be teaming up with the Cape Fear Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons for their 2014 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes walk. There is an old saying: “You can’t really understand another person’s experience until you’ve walked a mile in their shoes.” Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to literally walk one mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. It’s not easy walking in these shoes, but it’s fun and it gets the community to talk about something that’s really difficult to talk about: gender relations and men’s sexual violence against women.
Each year for the RCC hosts the Walk a Mile in Her Shoes run. All proceeds will benefit the Rape Crisis Center of Coastal Horizons Center Inc.’s Rape Prevention Education Program. Happy Ballerina will has provided the Walk a Mile “WAM” official super hero cape as well as a child sized super hero cape and mask (all proceeds go to the Rape Crisis Center) as well as two custom, adult super hero capes that will be given to the winners of the best costume contest! So wear your heels, wear your cape and meet us downtown each April for a great cause!
